What Does “Oneness” Really Mean?

I’d been on my healing journey for several years before I realized something was missing from my life.  Something big.  It took me a while to figure it out, but when I did I discovered it was a sense of “oneness.”

Even so, it was hard for me to understand such a foreign concept.  It’s not like I could actually see this oneness connection with my eyes.  Plus, I had no experience with connection or how it felt.  As an abused child, I‘d never felt accepted, seen, heard, loved, cherished, or adored by others.  I wasn’t even connected to my own heart, mind, and body.  Yikes!

But I kept working at it.  There was something about the concept of oneness that just felt right, you know?

Eventually, I began to understand.  Oneness means we are all one, because we’re all spiritual beings connected to God and his love.

When you look at it that way, it’s easy to open your heart and love everyone you meet.  You can even love toxic people.  Oneness doesn’t mean you agree with or accept their negative behavior.  It just means you love the spiritual essence beneath their toxic words and actions.  You can do this because you understand they’re spiritual beings, too.  They’re connected to God and his love just like you.

See how that works?

Oneness makes it possible for you to listen to others without being crushed by the weight of their horrific life stories.  Instead, you can see the love of God inside them struggling to establish a connection.  In the same way, you can be in the presence of abusive, manipulative, toxic people.  They’re just lost souls, who haven’t realized they’re spiritual beings connected to God and his love.

Consider adding oneness to your list of 2017 New Year’s resolutions.  See yourself connected to everyone on a spiritual level, and all of us connected to God and his love.  Focus on the spiritual essence of a person, rather than the offensive behavior.

When you do, God will begin showing up in your life in a powerful way.  This is what’s happening to me.  It’ll happen to you, too!

I Just Made Your Healing Journey Easier!

Now that my first book, Journey to the Heart, is published and on sale, I’ve been asked to talk a little about why I wrote it.  Actually, I had three reasons for writing this book, and YOU were the inspiration for each one!

First, many of my coaching clients have asked me what I would do or have done when I faced the really hard parts of my healing journey.  Healing from trauma and abuse is always messy.  We often wish we had someone to hold our hand, tell us what to do, and guide us through the tough stuff.  Now you do.  That’s what Journey to the Heart is about.

Second, thriving is an important part of healing.  But when I got to that point, I didn’t know what to do.  Thrive?  What’s that?  Thriving is a lifestyle.  Like all abused children, I’d never been taught this valuable skill.  Journey to the Heart shows you all the steps I took to teach myself how to thrive.  Now you have the roadmap that I never had.

Finally, healing from trauma and abuse isn’t a straight line.  It’s a circular, organic process.  It’s made up of hundreds of little truths we must absorb to continue to move forward on our healing journey.  This doesn’t happen overnight.  You have to keep coming back to those truths and absorbing their message, until they sink deeply into your heart and soul.  This is how you transform your life.  Journey to the Heart gathers all those truths together for you in one, handy, convenient place.

And that’s why I wrote this book: I wrote it for YOU!  When I found a way to heal from trauma and abuse, I vowed I would show other survivors how to heal, too.  There’s no need for you to spend years searching for answers like I did.  Now the answers are in one place, and it’s called Journey to the Heart.

If you don’t have a copy yet, here’s where you’ll find it!

By the way, I’ve been hearing from people around the world, who have bought the book (US, UK, Iceland, Denmark, New Zealand, Australia, etc.).  I’m charting its worldwide path on a map.  What fun, right?  If you buy the book, send me an email or a Facebook message and tell me which state and/or country you live in, and I’ll add you to the map!

How to Feel Safe in an Unsafe World

12/4/2016

Safety is a major issue for us.  Most survivors of child abuse or trauma don't know how to feel safe.

One of the first things I do with new clients is help them establish an understanding of safety.  But how do you do that?  How can you feel safe in an unsafe world?

You tackle this goal in two phases.  First, you create a safe inner world for yourself.  Then you establish a safe outer world.

When we don't feel safe as adults, it’s because our inner world isn’t safe.  In order to heal your inner world, you must give yourself permission to not only feel your emotions but also face those emotions you weren’t allowed to express as an abused child.

This is important, because every year those repressed emotions eat up more space inside you.  You need to acknowledge them, feel them, express them, and then release them in a healthy way.

After spending years struggling with my feelings, I’ve learned to appreciate them.  I no longer fear them.  Your emotions are the language your body uses to communicate with you.  This is how your nervous system warns you about something or lets you know it’s time to make a change in a certain area of your life.

Once you’ve made peace with your emotions and created a safe inner world, your outer world will begin to shift and change.

The most important step I took in creating a safe outer world was to cut out family members who were unsupportive of my healing.  As I healed my inner world, I realized most of my family was never going to be a part of my healing, and I’m okay with that.  We each have our own path to follow.  We may have been born into the same family, but that doesn’t mean our paths are the same.

If you’re having trouble with safety issues and need help, I’m here for you.  My clients often tell me how safe they feel with me.  That’s because I simplify the process to make it easier for them to create a safe inner and outer world for themselves.

Contact me if you need help.  I had to create safety for myself years ago, so I’m happy to show you how to do it, too!
